Dian Wei, a fearsome warrior from the late Eastern Han dynasty, served as a bodyguard to Cao Cao during the turbulent era depicted in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Renowned for his immense strength and unwavering loyalty, Dian Wei earned the epithet "Ancient Evil" for his ferocious fighting style and intimidating presence.
He initially served under Zhang Miao but was later recruited by Cao Cao after demonstrating incredible bravery by single-handedly protecting Cao Cao from an assassination attempt. This event solidified his position as Cao Cao's personal guard, a role he fulfilled with unparalleled dedication.
Dian Wei met his heroic end at the Battle of Wan Castle, sacrificing himself to allow Cao Cao to escape from a surprise attack launched by Zhang Xiu. Even in death, he instilled fear in the enemy, delaying their advance long enough for Cao Cao and his remaining forces to flee. His loyalty and bravery were greatly admired by Cao Cao, who deeply mourned his loss.
